snippet17, they didn't do one at my last appointment, but they decided to do one for this round. And they are doing the one at 16 weeks, but that's more or less due to the bit of bleeding and making sure it isn't getting worse/causing a problem. My 20 week ultrasound will be at a different facility, but that's because I'm overweight and the other location has better equipment for sharper images in the anatomy scan for overweight women.

Sorry for the little bleed and the required rest chipmunk! So happy to hear the ultrasound looked great otherwise and that you had a good appointment.

That makes sense to have one for the bleeding. I was just excited for you to get one at all of the appointments. Never knew about needing a different ultrasound for being overweight, but maybe since mine is all done at a hospital the ones they use are the norm.

snippet17, I should have worded it better....the office I go to does have the standard equipment available, but because of my BMI, they'd rather I have the anatomy scan at this other facility, which is a hospital, due to them having a higher grade equipment with better resolution. Apparently by 20 weeks, Baby Chipmunk will be big enough to hide partially behind my stomach fat, and they'd rather I go to this other facility to get the best possible images the first time around, rather than go to the office, have unclear or poor imaging, and then have to pay for another round of imaging elsewhere. I'm on board with spending less money overall, and it's additional incentive to really buckle down on health and weight goals after this kid arrives.

chipmunk - I am considered obese and they never said anything but all of the ultrasounds are done at the hospital for my doctor's office. Which is more likely the reason they never said anything since its standard for them. I actually have to go back next week at week 25 to get new pictures because they could not get all of the positions of the heart. Mine was a level two anatomy scan due to my screening test results. They even had me empty my bladder at that appointment to try to make the baby move for a better angle. A side note, I was at least told my bladder does not need to be full now, which is nice. It cannot be 100% empty, but at least I can be semi-comfortable.

Having reviewed ultrasounds myself on a professional level I can definitely tell you that there is a big variety in the quality of the test - both from the type of machine that is used and the skill and experience of the ultrasound technician. I think if there's ever any doubt going to a specialty center for the big 18-20wk ultrasound totally makes sense.

@lolo - At least my doctor's office, blood work, and ultrasounds are all in the same hospital, but it is rare I can schedule the ultrasound and doctor's appointment the same day without a 3 hour gap. One nice thing for my next appointment they can give me the drink for the diabetes test before my appointment and I can go down to the lab right after the appointment.
I always get a person in training every time I see the ultrasound or my doctor since my case is very unique. Sometimes I feel like I am an animal at the zoo, this patient it the heterotopic pregnancy patient.

The ultrasound tech got all of the angles of the heart. It appears healthy. The tech didn't take too many other pictures since they didn't need them but she did take a picture of the face so I could take it home.
