I guess the logic is that if you start an induction at 1am then the baby will likely be born during working hours the following day?
ETA: I know this is what they do for the complex birth defects cases that I see sometimes. They induce mom late at night, often on a Sunday, knowing that the surgical teams will be waiting to admit the baby immediately when there are the most number of resources and personnel available. I imagine the same might hold for routine deliveries - there may be more nurses on during the day, etc.

Doctor's office said they'd call by 4:30 yesterday if they needed to schedule me for a 3 hour test. I didn't get a call. Yay! Apparently I spoke too soon. They just called. I'm just above the cut off for sugars. I now have to do the 3 hour test. FUUUUUUUUCCCCKKK.

I'm hoping that if I don't "pass" that I will still be low enough that it's merely dietary restrictions and sugar monitoring. No insulin, preferably. Dh and I have decided even if I pass round 2, this is definitely additional wake up/ incentive to get better about our eating habits. If I don't pass, he's offered to go on any dietary restrictions with me.

Just had my 2nd hour blood draw. Thank goodness for my kindle. I'm quickly approaching hangry given the no food mandate (last food was 7 pm yesterday). I will be impressed if my arm doesn't look like it's going to fall off after all the sticks.

I'm now two hours past my last draw, and my arm looked like a pincushion. Thank goodness for lunches! My supervisor actually told me to make sure I grabbed a bite to eat before heading into the office. It's just obeying the directives of my superiors, right?

Please keep any "anti GD" vibes coming! We are past the time frame it took them to get back to me last week to set up the 3 hour appointment without hearing from the doctor's office, but still waiting to hear yea or nay, so not out of the woods yet!

Fuck. My sugars are "elevated" and I am now classified as a gestational diabetic. My office is setting up an appointment with the hospital for me to meet with them, go over diet and how to test my sugars, etc, and I will have to start keeping a "sugars" log. I'll also be getting another appointment at the doctor's office.
Here's hoping it can be controlled through diet. I really don't want to have to take insulin. I feel like I'm already a bad mom.

I'm sorry chipmunk! GD sucks but it's so common and it's definitely NOT your fault. You're an awesome mom, and I know you'll take charge and handle this like a pro. We'll be here to cheer you on!

Thanks ladies. I knew I was at increased risk between my pre pregnancy BMI and having a direct family member who is an insulin dependent diabetic. I was just really really hoping this wouldn't be the case with me.
I have an appointment at the hospital for the class on Friday morning. And time between now and a week from tomorrow to work off my sick time taken to make sure there's plenty for maternity leave.

They didn't tell me my numbers, but I agree- if there was an immediate need for insulin, they'd be hauling me into the office today, not referring me for the appointment/class with a plan to set up an office appointment a week or so later. Recipes on lean chicken, broccoli, green beans, peas, or combinations thereof are much appreciated I suspect DH and I will be looking at other low-GI recipes online this weekend. Despite my Dad going from pre-diabetic to full blown diabetes, and eventually from glipizide to prescriptions for short and long acting injectable insulin, he refused and continues to refuse to change his dietary habits the entire time I was under his roof and seeing this in action. So, while I know generally the foods I can and can't eat, I don't have a lot of recipes to make the 10 weeks easier with variety in preparations.

My supervisor just sent me an edible arrangement to cheer me up from the diagnosis. (nothing chocolate covered of course) I work for awesome people.

Just got on following my GD Management class. We all got monitors, had a long session covering portion sizes, recommendations and guidelines for managing GD, and stuff to stay away from. Informative and helpful, and now I don't feel like I'm spending the next ten weeks surviving only on green veggies and water.
Called in to my doctor group- they have to send in the prescription for my test strips and lancets. I hope they get it in today- I've not got enough sample strips to make it through the weekend without the script being filled asap.
