Since we are talking about strollers - can you ladies share your opinions on car seats, travel systems and convertible car seats?
I am thinking we will want the travel system car seats for when baby is first born - and 2 bases (one for each car) and then we will move to a more long term convertible car seat once baby is a little older. I want to be able to keep the convertible car seat rear-facing for 2 years and then turn it around. And we will put a convertible seat in each of our vehicles so we don't have to move one back and forth.
I have to do my research, etc but wanted your opinions also because there are SO many options out there.
We don't have size constraints, I don't think? I drive an Lexus RX350 and H drives a Dodge Ram 1500 with the extended cab and this will be our first child...so we don't need to worry about fitting a seat in with other seats, etc. I think that the backseat of the truck will accommodate any seat - it's a full extended cab, not "jump seat" situation.

Both kids used the Baby Trends travel system. DD is still in the infant seat. I like that the car seat can be snapped right onto the stroller when they're little, it also had thee wheels and folds up. It is a bit bulky, but it goes on many surfaces. (The stroller). I take her in and out Of the infant seat. DS is in a convertible car seat, the evenflo symphony. It goes to 65!lbs and is easy to uninstall and reinstall. We both drive Fords, an Escape and a Focus and both seats work well. I'm thinking when it's time to move DD, that she can use the Evenflo and we'll get the Graco Nautilus for DS. Babies R Us will let you try a car seat out to see if it fits.

Stupid question. But do car seats usually come with a base? I am just asking because I hate to buy one and find out that we didn't need it since they always come with a base. Not sure if this makes a difference or not for the bases, but we just plan to get a convertible carseat.

Not sure if this makes a difference or not for the bases, but we just plan to get a convertible carseat. I BELIEVE convertible seats don't have bases, only infant "bucket" seats do. Convertible ones just strap directly in with the seatbelt. But the infant seats that require bases do come with one. You'd only need additional for ease of use in additional cars without having to uninstall and reinstall. Thank you so much! I keep seeing them (bases) for sale various location flea market groups on facebook. I saw some had about 3 bases and no cat seat. I was getting confused. I won't be buying a carseat or base on facebook (Just don't trust if its never been in a car incident, etc) We are not getting an infant seat, so I guess we won't have to worry about the base.

You get one "base" when you buy the infant seat I think. This is what you install in the car - and the bucket seat itself detaches, right?
I think that is how it works?
We will be getting a 2nd base to install in H's truck and then the infant bucket seat can go in either vehicle.

Yup, bases are what get put into the cars, so you can easily snap on the bucket seat. Be careful with car seats advertised as used, they have expiration dates. I think most are 5 years from the date of manufacturing. (Found on the bottom or side of the seat).
