First, I miss you all!!!! It's been a tough adjustment with the new LO (he's awesome, FTR), but I think we're getting into a good rhythm. Hopefully I'll actually get a chance to chat next week.
P's birth story is relatively uneventful, for which I am super grateful. It was definitely a very different experience than when I had DD. I had my 37 week appt with my OB on the morning of the 3rd. The nurse noted that my blood pressure was high. My doctor decided to do the rest of the exam and then recheck my blood pressure to confirm. Unfortunately, my blood pressure was still high. My urine was clean, so I wasn't preeclamptic, just a case gestational hypertension. Because of my history of preeclampsia and HELLP, my doctor decided it was best to not take any chances as it was just a matter of time in her eyes. We had previously discussed VBAC versus repeat C, and had decided that induction was not a good option, so I was scheduled for a C-section that afternoon.
I made some calls and went home to do about 6 months worth of nesting before going to the hospital. Unfortunately, every pregnant woman in the Cleveland area was in labor so I had some waiting around to do. I arrived at the hospital at 4 and was scheduled for around 5:30/6. I got bumped twice for more emergent cases (no biggie) and finally was taken back around 10:30pm. A non-emergent C-section is SOOOOO different than an emergency C. With DD, they wheeled me back and she was out in approximately 5 minutes. This time, there was a whole bunch of prep work and the doctors really took their time. I reacted very poorly to all the anesthetics, but the anesthesiologist was a GOD and did everything in his power to keep me calm and puke-free. He was ultimately unsuccessful, which made the surgery last about 20 minutes longer than normal (doctors had to take a break because I was heaving too hard). I developed a really bad spinal headache and started to have an anxiety attack, so he gave me a mild sedative which helped immensely. Seriously, he was fantastic. Even came to check on me the day before I went home. Anyway, enough about my inappropriate feelings for the anesthesiologist.
P was born at 11:15pm and he was/is absolutely perfect! The doctors were really impressed since he was right on the cusp of term/pre-term. His only issues were a very mild case of jaundice and a little trouble regulating his body temperature. Otherwise he was perfectly perfect. My blood pressure after birth has been fantastic. I was already anemic and my platelets were low prior to the surgery. Post surgery I'm very very anemic and my platelets have been stupid low. I was supposed to come home on that Friday, but the doctors didn't feel comfortable letting me go so I stayed an extra night. (Cue emotional breakdown.) I'm on supplements, but I need to see my doctor next week because I'm having some awesome symptoms from the anemia. Not only am I exhausted and pale as hell, but I'm having shortness of breath and headaches related to it as well. Hopefully, there is something that can be done to help me recover a little more quickly. I also have a pretty gnarly case of the Baby Blues, so I'm keeping an eye on that because I had PPD with DD. It's been a rough week because I feel terrible and my emotions are all over the place. It's not pretty. I'm really grateful that P is a really good baby. And I may be biased, but I think he's pretty darn cute. My mom was here until this past Wednesday, and H will be home for another week, so I'm hopeful their help will get me over this hump.
Thanks everyone for all your well-wishes and another shoutout thank you to LMC for being an awesome labor buddy.
Here's a pic of big sister with her new baby brother. She's so proud.
