I heard a lot, especially when I was pregnant with DD, that the ultrasound could be wrong about the sex. And then they would tell me about so and so who thought they were having a girl, but SURPRISE. 1. I'm aware that there is the chance the ultrasound tech is wrong. 2. Technology has come a loooooong way since 1980, so the chance they are wrong is slim. 3. The tech wasn't making an educated guess, she saw vagina. The camera got all up in there. 4. Stop trying to take my joy. It used to be a common occurrence but doesn't happen much anymore.
People didnt comment as much with DS, but I think it's because I had so many ultrasounds and each one confirmed the sex.

Sleeping on their backs is something my MIL keeps binging up. Babies didn't have to sleep on their backs in the 80s. She gets smug anytime we say the kids are tummy sleepers. The car seats, extended rear facing has caught on more lately. Cloth diapers, baby carriers, cribs, a lot more.
I was once changing DS and my grandpa asked me where the safety pins were. I told him that diapers don't have pins and showed him the disposable one I was using. He was fascinated with how things had changed.

He thinks my H is the best father to have ever been created because he does things like change diapers, and feed the kids. I've heard on many, many occasions about how lucky I am that H helps me with the kids. On one hand, I realize that I am fortunate to have a husband that views parenting as a partnership. On the other hand, it's sad that having a husband who feels and acts as mine does is such a new concept that people can't help but marvel and consider me "lucky."

My grandmother used a little bit of whiskey for the baby's gums when teething.
My MIL never got an ultasound. Her doctor was old school and didn't do those.

My neighbor told me to start putting rice cereal in her bottle at like 3 weeks so she would sleep through the night. I told her no and that is not recommended anymore. She got all pissy with me because I didn't want to do it. She suggested it several more times until I got annoyed and told to stop suggesting it because I'm not going to do it. Then I got the infamous "Well, I did with all 3 of my kids and they are still alive" We started putting a bit of rice cereal in Bean's bottles at the suggestion of her pedi to help with spit up (which it does) and I can assure you it does nothing to help with her sleeping through the night! See and this shows just how different advice can be just from person to person, not even a generational thing. Our pediatrician has drilled into me to never, ever, under no circumstances ever put anything other than the formula/milk in the bottle. You would think things would be more standardized.

You'd think so! And our pedi is a fairly young female so definitely not generational. We were actually quite skeptical but she provided us information that showed it can used to help treat reflux symptoms so we gave it a go & incorporated it into her treatment plan rather successfully so far. My ped was a relatively young guy too. That info would've been nice to have when DD was a spit-up queen!

My parents are amazed at how many ultrasounds I've had and that we knew that baby is a boy so early.
Technology is a bit more advanced than 1978 and 1980!
I don't even listen when I hear other advice. Truthfully. I'm very good at smiling and nodding and being polite but not paying a damn bit of mind to what is coming out of people's mouths.

CheesePlease - both of my nieces had digestive issues as babies. They needed the super expensive formula and all that. They both grew out of it around the time they hit a year old. Now they can eat anything. Hopefully Bean grows out of it too. There's hope!
