1. 8w5d, but dh thinks I am 9w5d
2. I keep forgetting I am pregnant. Like I just don't feel pregnant. It's odd. My only issue is sometimes cramps and weird dreams (nedrist.com and geek and sundry peeps were in my dreams last night).
I do worry about paying bills during my mat leave and its been a PITA to get dh to save. He knows I will be bringing in nada for a month or so and doesn't save. I told him no Christmas gifts for each other and he whined.
3. The name we have picked out is gender neutral. We are still trying to figure out middle names. It was going to be Lee for both but I am not sure if that is a good boys middle name. I am not into using traditional boys names for girls and girls names for boys.
Carvings: I got none.

1. How far along are you? 12+4
2. Vents/rants/AWs? Not really- feeling pretty great these days. We had a good u/s on Thursday, which has relieved some of my anxiety. I have a checkup tomorrow and will find out more (had bloodwork done as well). My whirlwind cross-Canada vacation begins on Thursday, so I'm looking forward to (most of) that.
3. How do you feel about the gender neutral (or opposite gender) name trend? (ie. James or Maxwell for a girl... Apparently 2015 is the year of gender-neutral names, according to fb) It's not my favourite, especially when it's a name that is generally one and then used for the other to be edgy. There are lots of names that are neutral that are fine. I had two Jordans (one male, one female) this year in my class. They were both great kids and neither was teased about having a boy/girl name. I guess it's not really new, though. There have been gender neural names for ages, but they seem to have been claimed by one gender or the other. I mean I know several older male Leslies, Lindsays and Shannons. It does seem to be more accept to have a girl be given a male name these days than vice versa (although my friend Liz was trying to convince me that Elizabeth would be a great name for a girl or boy when I told her I was pregnant).
Random: I'm worried about leaving my dog with a dog sitter for the 12 days that h is joining me this summer on our trip. He'll be fine, but as it's working out, I won't get to meet the woman who is looking after him. H will and I know it'll be okay, but I'm going to miss my buddy!
Weirdest craving. Nothing consistent. I did want (and get!) a McDonalds cheeseburger one day. There was another day I really wanted Vietnamese food. We found a new and delicious place nearby that also does takeaway, so that was a win! I've also been loving soup recently. But mainly I'm not craving much.

My H is named Lee. Well, it's his middle name, but he goes by it because when he as born, no one in his family could say his first name correctly (it's Benjamin, so I don't know if I buy MIL's story. He was born in Wales and apparently everyone called him bengee-man). His ex-girlfriend also had the middle name Leigh, which I found amusing at the time. She and I were friends... Long story.

Random: Chinese takeout. I hadn't eaten it in YEARS but one day just had this feeling come over me that the world would cease to turn if I didn't acquire an eggroll and some crab rangoon. I've also been drinking lemonade like it's going out of style, which I normally have maybe 2 glasses of a year. And of course the other day WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM GETTING ICE CREAM, I had the biggest craving for those nachos at the gas station with the liquid cheese you pump on yourself. So DH pulled right into 7-11 and handed me a $5, no questions asked. Hold up, this isn't a normal sensation? I assure you crab rangoon is one of the forces turning the earth's axis. I don't like the "switch" like Maxwell for a girl but neutral names are fine by me, my favorite kid to babysit was a girl named Jordan and I've been partial to that name since (we won't use it though, there's already a Jordan on H's side).

1. How far along are you?
I will be 18 weeks tomorrow.
2. Vents/rants/AW?
The heartburn is back, again! And this uncomfortable feeling like I'm "full" all the time but yet I'm always hungry!!! It makes no sense.
3. How do you feel about the gender neutral (or opposite gender) name trend? (ie. James or Maxwell for a girl... Apparently 2015 is the year of gender-neutral names, according to fb)
At least it isn't adding random vowels and crazy spellings? I hear/see baby names at times that make me think: did you give zero thought to the fact that baby will grow up to be an ADULT?
Random:
Weirdest craving
Hmm...not sure I have had a weird one. Sadly, I am craving really healthy stuff like veggies with dip or cheese. Boring!

HOT DIGGITY DAMN YOU GUYS I just found out my company pays 100% for my whole leave!!! This is one of the best things I've read on the Internet!!! Seriously awesome. It's about time US employers start figuring out that paid maternity leave is a GOOD policy. I bet you will feel more loyalty towards your employer because of this!

I worry that my baby will have no hair. I have a friend who has a daughter that is almost 1 and still does not really have any hair.

My cousin was bald for almost 2 years, whereas we all had full heads of hair from birth PDQ: I'm on the far left, and that's my little brother and cousin as babies;"] Wow you look so much like your Mom! I know you know this but it had to be said

Already!
1. How far along are you? 24+2 today. Viability!!!
2. Vents/rants//AWs?
I haven't figured out this kids sleep pattern, or if he even has one at this point. If I go more than a few hours without feeling him kick I panic. But I can usually irritate him enough eventually to give me a little kick session after a while.
Also the other day I was laying on our living room floor and I could feel his freaking head exactly. I don't know why or how, but it was sticking straight out my side. It was so freaky!
3. How do you feel about the gender neutral (or opposite gender) name trend? (ie. James or Maxwell for a girl... Apparently 2015 is the year of gender-neutral names, according to fb)
Eh. I'm not. Fan, but there are worse trends.
Random:
Weirdest craving. Nachos. I just at tortilla and chips with American cheese melted on top and I am trying not to go "make" more. generally I have reached a point where I get full from not eating much. I think that is the only thing helping me keep weight normal.

I worry that my baby will have no hair. I have a friend who has a daughter that is almost 1 and still does not really have any hair. I have a family member who didn't have much hair at all until she went to elementary school. Even as an adult, she has thin hair. Her daughter is following the same trend. Not enough to put in a clip at two. (sorry, this isn't making you feel better. Oops!) And there is really no reason to worry. My hair is very thick and so is DH's. Both of my parents hair are thick and my mom is 59 and my dad is in his early 60s.

I'm annoyed today.
Had an OB appt and the doctor was really pushing a test for spina bifida...even though he said its not very accurate.
I asked if I could have it done after my 20 week ultrasound and he said no - it had to be done between 16-20 weeks exactly.
I declined then - because I've been taking prenatal a with folic acid, etc...but now I'm second guessing myself. I don't want a test that could freak me out with a false positive and result in me having more invasive testing unnecessarily...but ugh!
Who knows anything about spina bifida? Is it genetic? We have zero family history of it...
And if baby would have it - is there anything that could be done in utero? (So meaning I could mess up treatment by not detecting before week 20?)

I know nothing about spina bifida. But a quick google search said that the chance of spina bifida happening to a baby born in the US is 0.7 per 1000 births.

We have zero family history of it... And if baby would have it - is there anything that could be done in utero? (So meaning I could mess up treatment by not detecting before week 20?) Which test is it exactly? I was tested for SB among other things and it's not invasive, just a blood test. Totally NBD. My doctor did say there's a pretty high risk of false alarms (not that YOU DEFINITELY HAVE IT, but "you're at greater risk for baby having it") but I was off the charts on the low risk side, less than 1:100,000 chance. The afb blood test? Which I would have done had it been suggested earlier without hesitation. But now I'm being told at 18 weeks that I have to get it done basically *right now* because it needs to be done before 20 weeks. But I already have the 20week ultrasound scheduled for August 19th - so I'm wondering if it is worth it to pay for this test when even *if* the test came back tomorrow showing a higher risk - the next step would be the ultrasound. (And me being potentially nervous between now and Aug 19th for maybe no reason?) If this was week 16 and there were more weeks to go before my ultrasound... I probably wouldn't hesitate. But it takes days to get the results back (maybe 10 according to my doctor) so I'm sitting here going "is it worth it? Do I need the extra worry?" Grr. I'm just annoyed. I spent over an hour waiting for a 10 minute appointment today and feel like I was rushed through before I could even formulate thoughts/questions.

My RE and endo follow my thyroid - not this OB. But that's an idea! I'm getting that drawn this week - I wonder if I could just have this added to that day's bloodwork!

@drexelkathy - I didn't have any genetic screenings with DD, but did with DS. I don't think there's any right or wrong answer. You just have to do what feels right to you and YH.
