August appointments go here.
I have my first appointment with my OB since finding out I am pregnant on Friday. Pretty much just some bloodwork.

I have to get bloodwork/ give urine sample the week after I get back from holidays, so somewhere around the 20th. We do bloodwork, etc as well as ultrasound at labs other than the ob/midwife, so it's a bit different than some places. Then, on the 27th, I have a checkup. They'll be scheduling the anatomy scan then, which is exciting.

I feel bad for you guys that only have one ob in the office. What happens if one of their patients goes into labor while they are out of town? Does someone from another practice takes over?

Not expecting, just wanted to chime in. snippet17, my OB office had 3 or 4 certified nurse midwives and 3 Drs. They would schedule my appointments so I would meet with all of them, in the end, a Dr., delivered DD. Like PPs said, when you're actually in labor, it's mainly the nurses with you.

I feel bad for you guys that only have one ob in the office. What happens if one of their patients goes into labor while they are out of town? Does someone from another practice takes over? The OB on call at the hospital takes care of labors. There's not even a chance that my OB will deliver my baby anyway, it's all about who's on call for that day. On the day I gave birth to Tadpole, my OB happened to be on call that day (and the day I was supposed to be induced - Aug 16) so ended up being the one to deliver, but it doesn't mean that'll work that way for next time . My OB has an office in the hospital and I have to eventually have an appointment with majority (if not all) of the OB's that are in that practice. I should know that the nurses are with you more than the doctors, but I had a brain fart. With doing various work in these hospitals, the nurses (or at least the head nurses) knows what is going on, what patient rooms are empty, etc. etc.

I don't know what this is, but I want some! Happy belated birthday!!! It's amazing is what it is. Orange Leaf is a DIY, by-the-ounce frozen yogurt place - like 12 flavors to choose from plus a giant topping bar. The Birthday Cake flavor tasted like batter and frosting. I topped with cheesecake chunks, brownie chunks, cookie crumbles and rainbow sprinkles. And thanks! Other than the cheesecake that sounds like heaven to me.

I have an ultrasound the 19th and then will see an OB on the 25th (I think?).
Here you rotate through all the OBs in the practice during your visits and one of them will be the OB at delivery.
I'm debating hiring a doula also. Has anyone had a doula for a hospital birth? My biggest reason is the fact that H may be 5+ hours getting to the hospital if I happen to go into labor when he is offshore. (By the time I call him on sat phone, he gets to the marina then drives to the hospital). So at least I would have the doula with me in that window and, well, just to help with all the FTM questions and such and hopefully with breastfeeding, a birth plan, etc

@drexelkathy - Do you have any close family or friend that could be there in case your H is offshore? IMO, I think I would prefer that over a doula.

I hadn't really thought of asking one of my girlfriends - but that's a thought. I have to give some thought to that - thanks for the idea.

Just got back from my first appointment since getting pregnant. The doctor tried to get the heart beat, but we didn't hear it. She said not to worry since she usually doesn't hear anything before week 12. Blood pressure is great and I actually lost 2 lbs since my annual visit in June. My next appointment will be in September and I will call and try to schedule the nuchal translucency scan the same day.
They gave me a list of blood work to get and I got that done right after my appointment. I was surprised all of the blood work was free since there was 10 tests. All of them being basics to see if I have enough of the anti-bodies of the vaccines, std, blood cell counts, and PAPP-A.

I hate/love that I can see my lab results so quickly. It is nice to know that most of my levels are great, but if anything is off it is not like I can talk to my doctor today.
Luckily, I can look the results up (my RBC is a bit low) and it just says I am more likely anemia. Which would not be a surprise since I have been tested for this all of my adult life. The thing that sucks is that I can prenatals with iron, so I will see what the doctor will suggest. I just need to stop assuming, since I am researching the other blood tests and I am just making myself confused. I will just talk to the doctor next week.

Got to have an "extra appointment" yesterday because I tripped over my lab and crashed into the coffee table. Bruised 2 ribs pretty good (nothing they can do) but thankfully, baby is kicking and all is well.
They did an ultrasound at the ER just to check - and he's in good shape, so is the placenta and his fluid levels. That gave me great relief...I was so scared that I had hurt him! I drove myself to the ER and hobbled in there to explain what happened. My blood pressure was crazy high - probably because I was so scared, so I have to follow up with the OB Monday and have them recheck that too.
All because I tried to step over my sleeping dog so as not to bother him...poor dog is getting awoken every time I need to get around him from here on out.

@drexelkathy - I am happy that all that you got is a bruised ribs (even though those hurt) and that the baby is perfectly fine.

Booo group b strep test is next week. I don't wanna. :-| Meanwhile, doc said I'm measuring right on schedule. I asked him how often he does episiotomies anymore and at first he pissed me off saying "selfishly, the quicker we get the baby out the quicker I go home" (WTF?!) but then he said it doesn't normally make anything go any faster, he only does it when it's obviously necessary (which is around 25%, which seems high to me), and it's only a tiny snip so if I need to tear more it followed that in one direction (like the starter tears on packages) rather than "an explosion." So idk if I feel better or worse. These people need sensitivity training. (Voice from the lurker cave).... ARE YOU KIDDING ME? OMG. This is absolutely unacceptable. Seriously. An "explosion"? I cringed when I read that. I'm sorry you have to experience these jerks but glad everything is going well.

I had my first ultra sound (outside of the er) yesterday! My baby is doing great. Moving its feet and has a heart beat of 175. They still saw some blood that my body needs to absorb, but that should be gone soon. It just takes awhile due to recovering and having a baby inside of me to take care of. The obgyn looked at me afterwards and said I can go back to work next week, I am just restricted on how heavy I am aloud to lift and lots of breaks.
They changed my due date, which fits in more with my O date.
Next doctor's appointment is on August 30. After that I should be going in only once every 4 weeks.
@lolo - move here and come to my practice. They are a lot more nicer and very sensitive.
