Thank you so much for the thoughts and prayers. I really needed it last week. Sorry it took me so long to post an update. Between being in hospital, limited mobility, and now grieving for the one child I lost it was more likely better for me to stay away from the internet. I know some where very worried, but luckily I am friends with a few of you on fb.
Long story short I had a heterotopic pregnancy. It is very rare in anyone who has never used fertility drugs. I lost the child in the fallopian tube, but still have the child that is in the uterus. My doctors stated it happens in around 1 in 300,000 natural pregnancies. Occurs more often in IVF. Right now I have a 1 in 3 change to loss the other child.
I am letting the hospital do a case study about my case, but I forgot to ask them if they can send me a copy or if I can look it up online.
The long story and a ton of TMI. But it might be informative for others. Some of the information might not all be there due to the pain, lack of sleep, pain meds, etc. As some of you know I was complaining about pains that I thought was constipation on Tuesday. It more likely was the beginning of this.
On Wednesday, I was at work at 7am and was regular me. At 10:30, I felt really bad cramps, started to sweat, and started to was to a couch and passed out for a couple seconds on it. I called my co-worker and told asked her to get me a protein bar. I thought I just needed to eat. My co-worker gave me one and then went to look for a wheel chair. She found a nurse that would look for one. Eventually they called a code (I think blue) since I would need a stretcher due to my vitals something like 54/20 for blood pressure! When the code people came up, they did not bring up a stretcher or bed. The nurse that was with me and one that was in charge was not happy at all. I finally went to the ER (FYI, the hospital I was working in is used to working with level 1 trauma).
The ER seemed to think it was anemia more than anything else and that I just did not eat that much that day. They did a quick ultra sound and they said they found either water or blood in there. (Later found out the doctor lied to me and knew it was blood and knew it was in my stomach). They wanted to ship me out since I am pregnant and just did not seem to want to bother with me. They never gave ne blood, but did give me 3 iv bags and my blood pressure was still below 95/something. Since they were going to move me DH was suggesting my hospital where my doctor is located at over the women's hospital. When the ambulance got there the hospital was in no rush to give them my paperwork nor had the ambulance drivers put on the lights and sirens. The drive is only 15 minutes, but still if they put on the lights it would have been quicker.
At my hospital, they gave me an ultra sound (got to see the baby that is in the uterus for the first time) and a ultra sound that went inside of me. They took my vitals multiple times and the blood pressure was very low. I was rushed into surgery within 30 minutes of getting to this ER. I know they had to make a cut near/at my belly button to put a scope in there, but I cannot recall what else they told me they would definitely need to do. I don't remember anything after the I don't care medicine went into my arm and woke up in the PACU. The first thing out of my mouth was am I still pregnant. They said yes. And then I wanted water, but all they could give me was ice chips.
After awhile they sent me to my room. When DH got to my room they explained everything that occurred. (he heard about it already and was told he could see the pictures). They told me that there was about 2 litters of blood in my stomach due to my left Fallopian tube bursting (I know they used a better word than this) and that there was an additional pregnancy in there. That my other pregnancy was in my uterus and has a 1 in 3 chance of not surviving. (I remember this well since I was told this multiple times by doctors while I was there). My mom, SIL, BIL, and MIL were all there in the waiting room with DH. Which is more likely what he needed. Everyone, but DH left the hospital around 8pm. My throat was so sore every time a nurse came in I asked for juice or apple sauce. My blood pressure was slowly rising throughout the night, but I had to use the restroom really bad, but could not use a bedpan, but finally they would have nurse help me walk to the restroom, but I still could not go and on the way back to my bed I felt dizzy and had to rest in a chair. They suggested for me to get a blood transfusion since my blood pressure dropped. They told me all of the cons and that had me worry, but I had that done and my blood pressure did go up throughout the night. But eventually they had to give me a catheter since my bladder was pretty full (they checked with this one machine that can measure how much is in your bladder) The next day around 5pm I was discharged from the hospital since I was fine walking by myself, my vitals were great, and could use the restroom.
Fill free to ask any questions. I may have forgotten a lot in the hospital between the morphine and the pain pills.
