I just heard about sip and see parties today. Has anyone ever heatd of, been invited to, or went to one?
They seem a bit gift grabby to me, but I wanted to see other people's thoughts on it. It has been suggested to me since we never had a housewarming party and , now, more likely won't have one until a few months after the baby is born. But I still think its gift grabby.

@daubachsgirl23 - ditto what @lolo from what I read it is more of an open house and people come and go as they please.
One thing that I like is everyone has a chance to see the baby at once. Its been annoying after surgery how much people want to see me and want to just show up with extra people.

we had one for my Sister-In-Law last summer. It was her second child, another boy (2 years a part), so no shower needed. I never heard of it before. A friend of hers mentioned it and she liked the idea, so I hosted it. We had it about 6 weeks after the baby was born and they had finished some renovations on the house they moved in to, so yes it was like a house-warming/meet the baby type of thing. It was co-ed, more of a get together rather than baby-focused. She didn't register or anything like that. Most people brought a small gift and if anyone asked what she "wanted" we would say diapers. So she got a lot of diapers and some cute new outfits.

I love when people bring G books. It gives me a reprieve from reading "Go Dog Go" to her for the 100-millionth time. hahaha, my 2 year old niece has this awful book that my sister hates but she insists on having her read it to her 10 times a day. So when aunt Sarah rolls up with a pile of books, she is always so relieved and hides the awful one for a couple weeks until she gets bored of the silly ones I buy her. I always buy books for our nieces and nephew. Our nephew is 5 and my H says that he suspects every single book the kid owns is one that we've given him and he's not even sure if the kid likes books, but his uncle is the biggest bibliophile in the family, so... Actually, it's my niece's FIRST birthday tomorrow (yay!). Any suggestions on an awesome book I can give her?

You guys are AWESOME! Thanks for all the recommendations. I took careful notes and I think I'll make a trip to the bookstore this evening! H and I are both book-lovers and he jokes that our kid(s?) will have more books than any other kids out there! (Gotta bring one into the world safely though... working on that!)

Also, if you want to turn into a teary, crying mess- The Night You Were Born is a good one. I bought it for my nieces and my sis and I sat in bed on Alice's 2nd birthday and read it to her. Both of us were SOBBING. Oh my god my SIL would LOVE that!!! I just looked it up and I'm already crying.

Incidentally, I just got invited to a Halloween sip and see for H's friend's new baby. Did you think that the invite seemed tacky or anything to you? I really wish I could have SIL write on the baby shower invite. Please do not buy snippet and H books, they do not have room for anymore. I seriously doubt we will go through the few hundred (we have at least 100 here and 2 books at his grandmothers and 4 at his parents to go through of kid's books) of books H's parents have.

Both of us were SOBBING. Yes! This is the book I like to get customized. All the tears. I wish I had the time to get this customized... But I'm a slacker and little T turns 1 tomorrow and I have to ship it to Texas. Of course they're all on a cruise until next week, which is why I've been slacking. I'm also distracted.

Not really! It was pretty much just "hey, come eat, drink and meet the baby! Wear costumes if you want!" I love to donate books. A lot of children's hospitals will take them, especially ones with ERs. If you do get a ton (and you prob will lol), you could donate some. that way you get them out of the house for a good cause I married into a family of writers, donating books never goes over well. I found damaged books and throwing them away is a no-no. I am just hoping for receipts so I can at least take them to the store and hopefully get the money for them.

LMC - I think I been to a few showers that were bring a book so I keep thinking showers mean a ton of books. But you are right my cousins didn't get any books for her shower. I can see myself returning clothes to stores, but I don't feel so bad doing that. I could also see some relatives on both sides giving us penn state items. Which I may burn. efmcc67 - being an IH I don't worry about things like mold. But they are just ripped and some have missing pages. Trust me their living room and attic is filled with books and dvds. There are a lot of doubles too since they forget what they own. I am not allowed to help cleaning out the attic and spare bedrooms since I would either donate or throw out 80% of the stuff. I don't get it either. I had yard sella yearly growing up. Whatever didn't sell went to good will.

Only plus side is there are a lot of free books dor the future kid and H did use a lot of them when he was a TSS. He didn't get paid for anything he bought to work with the kids.
My mom says I have a ton in her attic. Which is just like 3-4 bins of barbies and cabbage patch dolls. Which are all organized. H's parents attic is not that. H has no issues with donating items. He works in nonprofit with daycares. (That's his new program) if our kid gets to old for the books and Sil doesn't seem like she is going to have kids soon we will be more likwy donating them to the daycares. (H and I just talked about it now).

I love you forever was a favorite of my mom's. Being the little demon I was, I preferred she read Fox in Sox, or as I affectionately called it, "Socky sock".
There's also "Say Please, Little Bear", and "Tumford the Terrible" (which is about saying Sorry) if the parents have mentioned they are at the stage of emphasizing basic manners.

Fox or koala, giraffe or raccoon, Anything, anywhere under the moon. Whatever it is you imagine to be, I'll just be so proud you belong to me. I'll kiss every whisker and smooth every hair Because child of mine, I'd know you anywhere. /dead well, you don't have to tell me twice. It has been purchased. I think these publishers know how to capitalize on the robust emotions of pregnant women. Weeping a little bit here too...
