Anyone have any suggestions on what brand of formula to start out using? I know from the classes that I should start with the premixed formula. But any suggestions on brand would be fantastic. I only plan to buy one case the first time JIC she has an allergy or any issues with the brand we use.

Not at that point yet, but I recall my parents going on about how I could only take prosobee (soy based), as all other formulas caused problems and issues for me, and mom was unable to nurse me. Prosobee apparently did the trick and I had no problems, tummy, allergy, or otherwise, on it.

Enfamil and Similac are your standard starting options. Every baby is different though so your instinct to only get a small amount to start with is a good one. Also FYI about soy formulas (Prosobee) most babies who don't tolerate cows milk formula also have problems with soy (actually often more problems), so that's probably not what I would start with. True milk allergies usually require elemental special formulas like Alimentum (which are $$$).

Enfamil or Similac is what I see the most of and I was more likely going to go with that, so I am happy to see that is what others use.

I was just going to say, you will probably get samples from the hospital or like what @lolo said. We used Similac with DS, and Enfamil with DD.

I know my hospital supplies the formula and lets us take home whatever we don't use. But I know they will ask us which one we want since they offer a variety.
@lolo - I never got samples from either of my registerregister goody bags. Just coupons. I did get a free powder can from pinchme.

@lolo - I was wondering if you were planning to take the baby on the cruise. I have seen little ones on cruises before.

My BIL and SIL love to cruise - like more than anyone I've ever met. They have a 15 month-old who has already been on 3 cruises! So yes, you can definitely bring babies.

entropicbeauty - thanks for the information. I am happy that formula is heavily regulated.

Our NICU nurses compared Enfamil vs. Similac to "coke vs. Pepsi" and said that it was usually about a personal preference between the two.
I use Similac NeoSure 22 calorie mixed to a 24 calorie concentration. In the NICU, they used the premixed bottles of Enfamil 24 calorie premature formula.

I am finally getting all of the free formula sent to me. I think we have about 5 cans of formula and one thing of ready made formula.

I wouldn't buy anything - wait until baby is here.
Since posting my first response? We've switched back to Enfamil and actually the premixed kind.
Babies can be so particular!

I should say all of those cans were free. We haven't bought any and won't until the baby is picky and we run out of everything we got for free that she likes.
