I am jealous of everyone that can have a second kid. Sorry I know you had some complications with this one but I didn't realize that they'd preclude a future pregnancy. Luckily for me its not a medical reason. I can't afford to have more than one. Daycare costs $25 a day here. The cost of daycare for two kids would be more than H's take home pay after taxes. Our insurance would more than triple if H became a stay at home parent and we used mine. @jennylee - I still don't know how my grandparents did it with one income while their kids will little. On my dad's side there were 7 kids, they took care of their one great aunt, and my grandfather was a firefighter.

snippet17 ugh, yeah that's another reason. It still sucks though! Sorry! I've done the math in my head many times and realize I'll be 40 by the time I could even start trying for #2. Possible, but I'm not holding out a lot of hope. It makes me sad, because I always visualized myself with 2 kids. Then I'm annoyed at myself because I know I should just see how #1 goes before I let my brain go there. Plus, I'm not sure I can afford a second either...

All six kids went to Catholic school. No clue how they did it. H's grandparents were the same way- 8 kids, never made much money, but somehow managed it. This is otherwise known as the demise of the American middle class... The salaries for most jobs have not increased commensurate with the increases in cost of living (especially the costs of having kids).

Massachusetts has the highest day care costs of any state in the country, averaging $16k/year for the whole state, closer to $18k/year in the Boston metro area.

I am pretty sure my brother pays over $3k a month for his 2 girls to go FT to daycare in the Denver metro area. Yup - more than a mortgage payment! These are the types of fees we'll be looking at too. I recently read that average childcare costs in the U.S. just went over the average housing costs. Gonna have to downsize our living arrangements instead of upsize. I hope if we have a #2 he/she doesn't mind sharing a room with big brother! And count down the days until kindergarten starts.

@lolo - I think inmight just try to find a job over the border and go to Canada. But not to where @jennylee lives. Its too cold and things are too expensive there.
I do luck out and we are doing an in home daycare and H works outside of county so we get cheaper rates. I have a friend who has a daughter in daycare downtown and they pay about $1000 a month and she only goes 3 days a week.
@sarahufl - I am guessing they have to make a lot more in Denver compared to here. The medium income in the boro I live in is around 30k for a family. I honestly have no clue how or if any of those familes would have a kid in daycare.

WIC is sometimes talked about on my month board on babycenter. The one day I looked up the rates for my state and I was surprised that the amount to qualify for wic is pretty much the same in every state except for Alaska and Hawaii.

On a very non serious note the baby either kicked or head butted my boob and made it move. Lol I had such a hard time trying to not laugh in my office.
