I'm sure any medical procedure can have lasting effects for a variety of reasons. That certainly doesn't mean that it's the norm or that it will happen to you.
I have a couple of friends who have had c-sections and neither has mentioned lasting pain. One of them is supposed to have her second c-section next week and the biggest concern she's talked to me about has to do with the meds they gave her last time. I guess one of them made her throw up for hours after the surgery. I can't even imagine how awful that must feel after major abdominal surgery. Plus, it interrupted bonding time with her newborn.

I've had 2 c-sections and have no residual pain from them. I obviously can't speak for other c mommas but I would think that pain at this point would be highly unusual. I do have areas on my abdomen that no longer have feeling due to the surgeries, but that's just odd, not uncomfortable.

I haven't had a c myself, but....I'd consider there might be continued pain depending on the skill of the doctor and any complications that arose from the C-Section.
My supervisor had 2 C-sections, and has never had a problem or discomfort because of them. (aside from the normal ache along the suture line during the healing process)
My Mom had a C-section with me nearly 30 years ago, and never had pain or discomfort due to the C-section itself- her pain and discomfort (which lasted about 2 weeks)came from the fact that the surgeon they had on stand by thought it'd be a great idea to reach in and strip her gallbladder (aka gently pinch and run his fingers down the length of it, feeling for stones), even though she wasn't anesthetized that far up. She nearly puked, did faint, and had some residual discomfort from that for a bit, but recovered. I'm not sure if the surgeon ever recovered from my Dad (another doctor who was in the OR) nearly smashing said surgeon's face into the OR wall....

I had a c-section.
I have no residual pain abdominally(and I'm 12 weeks post) but I do have discomfort at my incision site when I wear pants that hit on the incision (it's really inconveniently located with regards to where pants hit...but whatever) and the sensation in my skin in that area is "off"
Not expecting the incision discomfort to last much longer (it has improved significantly) but I'm not sure if the sensations in my skin in that area will ever return to what they were pre c.
I did have pain for probably a good 3 weeks post op though - just as my abdominal muscles and such were healing.

I knew i should not have opened this thread since this is one of my triggers. My doctor is not a fan of my birth plan if I would need to get one since mentally I can't go through with it.

My first c was an emergency c and I was so sick I don't think I was capable of even creating anxiety. However, with P, the anesthesiologist had to put anxiety meds in my IV and it helped sooooooooo much.

RE: the areas with no feeling, is that just in the scar tissue, or other areas too? I have a couple areas of scar tissue from procedures/stitches on my knees that have no feeling. From what I understand the numbness comes from severing of the nerves. I have it along the incision and up to a couple inches above the incision in some areas. From what I've been told the feeling probably won't ever return, but I've gotten used to it.

Oh what a relief! She's upset because it's her first, the area is infected so she's in a lot of pain and all her friends are telling her it's forever. I'll respond more later, getting ready for work now. My incision with P got infected and took much longer to heal than with M, but it did heal. I hope she feels better soon.
