DH just discovered home fetal dopplers as a thing he can buy on amazon.
I'm torn between indulging in his techie tendencies (I did draw the very firm line at the portable ultrasound "laptop" he found on amazon) and agreeing to the purchase (we're on pre baby budget, and this would count as a splurge)so he can listen to Chipmunchkin's heart and other noises several times a week for the remainder of our pregnancy.

I did not want a doppler because I would be checking for the heart beat all the time and driving the OB on call crazy every time I couldn't find the heart beat.

I am too nervous to have a doppler. No thank you. +1 I thought about it briefly, until I realized it would make my anxiety worse. I'd be checking 100 times a day. It's bad enough that I have home blood pressure cuff. My BP has been normal, but that doesn't stop me from checking it every single day!

I bought a Doppler when I was pregnant with G. Really, it will make you go crazy. It's hard, too, when you're doing it yourself to differentiate between the placenta and the heartbeat, and so you'll freak yourself out over everything and nothing. Or at least I did. I barely used it once I started feeling movement. There is also conflicting advice about how safe its regular usage is. We have one that's old as time; it was my grandpa's and IDK why he had it. I imagine it was heart problem-related but he was also just a strange old bird (engineers, man). Only used it when my mom (former OB and ER nurse) was around to use it because otherwise I would have just sat there listening to my own bowels. When you get far enough along though you can hear with a stethoscope, although I also don't see any need for either once you feel movement. Kicks and punches are way more fun than heartbeat. Agreed, however Chipmunchkin seems to be taking after me in one regard- she messes mentally with people. Currently, she's messing with her Daddy. She can be moving around so much I swear there's a swing dance lesson happening in my belly, and the second DH puts a hand on me to feel it, she freezes. I've tried to help DH feel better about it by telling him he's likely a soothing presence for her, and how I haven't felt as many BIG nudges lately, but it doesn't always help.
He was curious about the Doppler a)because he's a techie, and to him, all electronics are new toys, and b) he's excited about the idea of hearing her in there while in the privacy of our own home.
I expect by this evening, he'll have gone back to his previous baby tech obsession- video cam monitors.

Hiccups are fun, too. I am at a point where H feels her move more than I can tell. Not sure if that is normal or that its easy for me to just ignore all small movements.

My boob pump arrived last night! Just the basic double system by Medela, but I can get more supplies for it at a "discount" via my insurance. Now to call them up and find out how much this discount really is- if it's the same price as ordering on Amazon, I'll just stick with Amazon and my free 2 day shipping.
