Further congratulations to @sarahufl on the arrival of her little girl!!
1.) How far along are you?
2.) Symptoms/Complaints/Comments/Aww moments?
3.) Craziest/worst/best maternity and/or baby care "suggestion" from someone "being helpful"?

1.) 32 weeks, 3 days
2.) Getting elbowed and kneed at regular intervals. I think Chipmunchkin keeps switching between a head down position and laying horizontal, based on the rolling and other movements. My hips and shoulders have been aching after sleeping on one side or the other all night, and I've had some aches in my back, right around where my floating ribs are. I'm chalking it up to compressed organs/tissues as she squishes them out of her way.
I found a beautiful mother of pearl style lamp base on sale at Target for a little table lamp in the nursery this past weekend. I got a simple white shade, and I'm decorating it to be "under the sea/ocean" style. What are the odds, last night at Jo Anns- they had two aisles of beach themed stuff, all on sale, plus I had extra coupons. I've used the fabric paint on the shade to turn it a teal blue/green, and will add shells and such to glam it up. Between this and the dip dye curtain, I've got my nursery projects!
3.) No crazy maternity suggestions (yet) but my sister did suggest when we have the prenatal meeting with the pediatrics group we're looking at that we ask how they handle their early morning "sick call"; ie, if the kid wakes up ill, will an appointment take all day, or do they have some walk in time available specifically for these kinds of situations. The group her OB/GYN practice coordinates with a lot has such a system in place.

This is a good thing to ask. I think most pediatrics groups have a system like this. For ours, they keep specific time slots open during the day for "sick" visits, so if you call in the morning (or any time during the day, really), they can fit you in with someone. They are also open on the weekends for urgent care. There is a pediatrician on call 24/7. We have used all of these amenities many times, lol. ETA: If the group you're looking at does not have such a system, I would find a different group. Seriously, the same-day sick visits, weekend availability, and on-call pedis are invaluable. Their website does list weekend hours, the group has offices all around our city (40 doctors in 7 offices), and I've a colleague who takes her two boys to the group and has had a lot of positive experiences. Plus, I checked out the licensure credentials and what not of every single one of the doctors in the practice (our state laws make that publically available) and all of them are checking out thus far in my criteria on experience/certifications/hospital privileges, etc.
It's just not clear from the info on their website on the "sick call" policy, though they do have physicians on call/available 24/7.

Plus they have an emergency on call nurse during off hours.

chipmunk I agree it's definitely a good idea to check what the policy is for sick visits. Most larger practices will have one or two doctors available all day for urgent care visits. It's also nice if the office has a separate waiting room for sick patients (so when you are bringing in your healthy newborn you don't end up sitting next to a sick kid).

Sister also mentioned this, and I'd found this as an item on a checklist of "things to ask/look for on a pre natal peds visit" I'll definitely be watching for it/ inquiring!

1.) 31 weeks
2.) Pregnancy-wise I still feel good. We'll see how long that lasts. Otherwise everything is making me extremely grumpy - work, house-hunting, my mother who is visiting. Blah.
3.) My boss (who is about 70 years old and had three kids in the 60s while working full time as a surgeon) told me I absolutely HAD to hire a full time live-in nanny for the baby, and that there was no other way of doing it if I wanted to juggle a baby and a career. I laughed and then told her how much paying a live-in nanny costs, and then reminded her what my salary is and also what it would cost for us to get a place with an extra bedroom for said nanny. She was sort of taken aback. I wish I could have used that as a lead-in to negotiate for a pay raise, but alas, that's not the way the system works in academia.

Along the same lines, I also made sure my practice required all kids who were medically able to follow their vaccination schedule, so if anyone is bringing in anything contagious it's not likely to be whooping cough. This is definitely a good point too! Especially if you live in a part of the country with low vaccination rates.

Just updated on the April appointments thread about today's session. For the giggles- Doctor had to chase baby around the belly with the Doppler; she REFUSED to sit still.
I finished decorating the lamp shade for the baby's room last night/this morning. I'll get some good photos of it and post by the weekend. I love how it turned out- not too fancy, but it's definitely "ocean-y" and helps tie a couple of the items in the nursery together as part of the theme.

I've mentioned before that my DH is very excited about Chipmunchkin, but hasn't had experience with babies before/watched videos giving him an idea of what to expect for changings, feeding, etc. This apparently also runs to childbirth. (Thank goodness we're doing a class). For whatever reason, DH decided to watch Knocked Up over the weekend. I was dozing on the couch, and woke up at the end, where Katherine Heigl's character is in labor/giving birth, and they do a whole sequence of "full frontal, baby coming out of the vagina." DH's expressions during that whole scene went something like this....starting with.... Followed by.... Before ending with.... Poor thing just looked at me in shock before quietly asking if that's what really happens during vaginal delivery, was I ok with that/able to handle it, and what could he do best to help me in that scenario. I did inform him that a) that was a dramatization, but generally, yes b) in the film, she refused the epidural; I planned to take all the drugs they'd let me have, and c) during delivery, shoulder rubs, encouragement, and forgiving me for anything I might say would be much appreciated. Oh, and I refused to have a mirror down there to see things myself. I'm willing to leave that to "mystery." I shamelessly admit, I was giggling watching his expression. He doesn't get grossed/freaked out by much, but apparently birth scenes might be one of the things that does it.

I think the chances of my H passing out at some point during the delivery are somewhere around 50/50.

That still amazes me. Did you get photos? I think that is so cool. I wish we did get photos! They snipped it right away, and it all happened so fast. I didn't even know it was still intact until they told me after--I thought maybe my water had broken during labor and I just hadn't noticed. I think it's super cool, too. Also, I think H would have feared for his life had he taken any photos of my childbirth. H says he still has nightmares when he thinks about l&d. He still doesn't like that he had to be involved.

I may have to rethink the pediatrician I'm considering....
They have an online request system for pre natal appointments to come meet the doctors and ask questions.
I put in a request, no response. I put in another request last week, and get a call that the scheduler is out, but will be back this week and will call me. As of 10:30 this morning, still no call.
Try to call the office directly- rings 3 times and then I get the "number is not in service/disconnected" error message.
I'm bummed. My colleague goes to one of their offices, and has never had a problem. I'm hoping this is just a random hiccup.
I did reach out via email this morning, informing them of my efforts to set up an appointment (twice by the normal system, plus the mess with the phone), asking I get a call back asap, and informing them of a day both DH and I have off, so we'd be completely available. Fingers crossed they get back to me. In the interim, I'm looking at some other groups on the insurance plan.

chipmunk - that sucks. I know my pedi had visits on certain dates but when I called them there was none before T was due. The phone number being disconnected would worry me.

There's been some outages in the area this past week due to the sale of Verizon FiOS to Frontier, and the switch occurring, but I've no way of knowing if that's the cause in this case.
I'm reaching out to another group to see if they are better on response times, etc.
In the interim, below is a photo of the table lamp for the nursery, along with the lampshade I painted and decorated. Not a huge photo, but you get the idea of how it turned out! ET

chipmunk - if you edit your posts, go into the BB code. It should say width=100%. Change it to width=300px. That should shrink it! Hmm....didn't work. I did upload to tinypics, and I even tried shrinking it beforehand in paint.
I am technologically inept, can't you tell?
ETA: Hey, doing that, I was able to just pull on the edges to shrink this sucker up. I feel so talented!
