@drexelkathy if you feel up to sharing I'd love to hear about how the drugs effect you and how the process is going. I understand if it's too personal and you don't want to share. But if you feel up to giving us updates I'd really like to read them.
Keeping my fingers crossed and wishing you big fat follicles.

nsweare - sure, I'll share! Be warned...it can be TMI. So far, I'm not really experiencing any side effects that I can tell...I'm a bit short tempered, but I've also increased my thyroid medication and totally stressed out at work...so I don't know as though I'd attribute that to the medications just yet. One benefit of doing the process that I'm doing instead of a Clomid cycle is that injections tend to have less side effects and there is a lot more monitoring than just doing a clomid cycle with IUI. The process: I'm taking Bravelle daily via injection. Right now I'm at a 75mg dosage. That can be adjusted if necessary either up or down. It was kind of amazing how everything was shipped right to my front door via the online pharmacy. There are syringes, alcohol wipes, instructions, a 'sharps' container, special caps that screw onto the vials, etc. all in a box...and then there was a mini-cooler also in the box that kept one of the drugs. It is crazy and part of my kitchen looks like a nurses station in a hospital. I'll admit, it is a little overwhelming and intimidating. I was lucky so far in that the nurse did my first shot on Monday in the office and FH was at home last night to give me yesterday's. Tonight I'm going to have to summon the courage to stick myself! That's going to suck. I'm already dreading it. With the Bravelle, I have to mix the solution. When it comes to the Ovidrel trigger shot...it comes premixed/measured. The sticking part is straight forward: squeeze some tummy fat and then stick and plunge. It hurts/burns a bit...but so far, I haven't developed any actual bruises on my stomach just tiny red spots in the two different injection sites. You alternate daily from one side of your stomach to the other. I go in for ultrasounds and blood work ever 2-3 days while I am taking the injections to monitor follicle growth, my estrogen levels, etc. I had an initial ultrasound on Monday and had 8 follicles on one side and 3 on the other and my uterine lining was thin (which is good). I go again on Thursday, Saturday and then Monday to see how things are progressing. They'll either keep me on the same dosage or potentially increase the dosage. It all depends on how my body is reacting. And they watch very closely for OHSS (hyperstimulation of the ovaries) to make sure I'm not going to turn into octomom and make a million eggs in one cycle. I'm also going to ask about Ganirelix (which will prevent me from ovulating on my own) to see if I should be taking that also. Ganirelix is a drug that prevents you from ovulating naturally. It might be beneficial to take it so that we know for SURE that the IUI is timed perfectly. Once my follicles are "ready", then I have another drug called Ovidrel (this one came already prepared and is kept in my fridge until the 'day') that I will take which will trigger ovulation. The IUI will be scheduled for 36 hours after the trigger shot. Then 3 days after the IUI, I will start on progesterone and stay on that through the "two week wait" and potentially beyond if the IUI is successful and I get pregnant.

Holy cow! I knew the process was involved, but had no idea there was that much. My BFF used IUI to conceive her son so I knew a little of what she went thru. I knew she had frequent ultrasounds, but didn't realize there were so many. Also, all the drugs and monitoring and everything seems a little overwhelming. Thank you so much for sharing! Keep updating as things progress. I'm really excited for you.
