I hope this is the right board.
I started doing Zumba 3x a week about 6 weeks ago. Since then, I have gained about 4 pounds, and my pants are much tighter on me. Any clues? I know I've been more hungry and trying to eat healthy foods with a low calorie count, but I can't seem to understand why this is happening. FTR, I started working out to get in shape/tone, not necessarily lose weight (I don't believe I need to). The amount of weight gain doesn't bother me as much as the fact that my "period pants" have become the only ones my butt and thighs can fit into.

What is your daily calorie count? If its too low, your body goes into starvation mode so holds onto everything. I do Zumba 3x a week as well! Are you doing actual classes, games on the Wii/WiiU or DVDs? Around 1400. I go to an actual class, it kicks my butt and I absolutely love it. It's almost an hour long. Twice a month they do a 2 hour class which I go to as well. H seems to think my pants are tight because of all my squatting. He thinks my thighs and ass are getting more muscle and in turn, getting bigger (which I don't really need but he isn't complaining).

It could very well be that! Plus muscle weighs more than fat, so a rise on the scale isn't surprising when starting an exercise routine. Do you use myfitnesspal or anything? I just downloaded it and started using it. And by just downloading it I mean two days ago. That's how I figured out I should be eating 1400 calories. One thing I noticed from the app but didn't before was that I was eating way too much carbs. So I'm not sure how quickly the pounds pack on from that. I got married in March and since then I have definitely been more lax on watching what I ate. But I didn't start seeing the tightness in my clothes until I started Zumba back up again. I'd be okay with whatever the scale said so long as my clothes fit. This is all just so odd to me.

You are probably one of the few people blessed with lower body growth (lucky you, I have done some absurd stuff to get a mini quad sweep). I think another way to approach it, is to just make peace with it. It sounds like you are gaining muscle and eating enough to sustain muscle growth. It also sounds like you are active, happy doing what you are doing, and hence engaged in something sustainable.
If you would absolutely like to lean out, I would not dip below your current intake of 1400 calories, like you said, I would play with what foods you eat (carbs aren't evil, I am a person who will cut somebody if I don't get carbs. I have previously upped protein intake, still ate a ton of carbs, and I got very lean). It might also be the case that you need even more calories. But, this is you, and you know best. If you're hungry all the time, try more protein or less refined carbs (maybe. That's what other's say). Personally, I suck at diets and I live with the philosophy of: ain't nobody got time for that.
In my humble opinion, throw out the jeans, and keep zumba'ing.

I definitely don't have anything near a quad sweep, but I've always had a big butt and thighs to hold it up compared to the rest of my body. H agrees that it's just time for the new jeans. I hate having to donate them, though.
