Someone on babycenter posted this list from TB about state name rules. I think it is sad that there needs to be rules for parents to not use Pictographs or thumbs up. WTF is wrong with some people. www.thebump.com/a/baby-name-rulesPa is not listed. So I guess we can name kids anything they want here and they can be an unlimited amount of characters.

So you're going to name your baby * right? The patriarchal last name rules piss me off. I was thinking of just mashing 10 random posters names from here and mashing them together but * is so much easier.

I want to know what makes Tennessee last name rules so complex that they didn't even attempt to list them.

Arkansas You can have apostrophes, hyphens and spaces in a name, but they can’t be consecutive. Also, Baby, Babyboy, Babygirl, Baby Boy, Baby Girl, Infant, Test, Unk and Void are invalid entries in the data entry system. I told you guys I know a La-a! A friend is fostering a kid who has the first name Baby, middle name the same as older sibling. (she does not call the child by this ridiculous name, FTR) I saw this once, in the form of Baby mom'sFN. I've also seen a Little dad'sFN, and a Tiny dad'sFN. You see a lot of interesting names when you work in general Pediatrics... I tend to forget most of them, but your comment made me remember these ones.

Here's an NPR article: www.npr.org/2014/09/15/347954339/creating-your-baby-s-last-name-tennessee-says-noCN: Basically, Tennessee won't let you invent a new last name for your child. It can be the last name of one of the parents, or you can hyphenate both last names. According to the article, you can't combine the names to make a new name. I couldn't find anything else in my cursory Googling. I guess there was a recent case in TN of a family naming their son "Messiah" (wtf!) that drew a lot of legal attention. That's flooding my first couple pages. I actually went to high school with a guy named Messiah, though it may have been spelled differently. His little sister was named Dasani. I can't make this stuff up. Like the bottled water?
