Thanks for the advice and estimates @daubachsgirl23 and snippet17! It's all quite confusing. I know I haven't paid a dime yet. Fortunately I think we'll be able to make $2k out of our budget if that really is the max we'll have to pay out-of-pocket. I'm far more terrified of the cost of raising the child (especially day care!).

It will be one in the county H works in since he will pick up the child and take it. Luckily he works outside Allegheny county, but the cost for most that will take infants are between $25-35 a day. He is the director of CCIS in that county and one other so who knows who will take us when they find that out. And most places want a person to start paying asap (if they have a spot opened) or they won't hold that spot.

And most places want a person to start paying asap (if they have a spot opened) or they won't hold that spot. That's really good. It's $50/day here for full week care. We only need one day per week and it's looking like $75-85. :-| Full amounts hospitals charge are ridiculous. $18,000 at mine for $1800 OOP cost. THOUSANDS for just the epidural ($770 OOP). Stupid. But they only charge the insurance companies that much... it's lower if you self pay. At least you only have to pay once per week. I don't even want to know what the cost of childcare would be in the county H and I live in, but I know it is a lot more. Going to a home provider it is cheaper, too, compared to a day care center.

If we had both girls in daycare for 40 hours a week, it would be about $2700/month. As it is, for both girls 10 hours a week, we pay about $700/month. I have no idea how people afford full time daycare for more than 1 kid. Yup, this sounds like Boston-area pricing! I'm starting to get vaguely terrified about how we're going to afford this. Everything is soooo expensive. DH and I together make more money than the average couple, but we've been putting together a budget and we'll barely be making ends meet when baby comes. It is so sad that the middle class has to struggle so much in many places in this country.

Everything about child care is stressful! And the rates in Denver are pure ridiculous - $1200/mo on the "cheap" end and upwards of $1700/mo on the high end. I honestly don't know how anyone can afford more than 1 kid! My brother lives in the Denver metro area and they have 2 kids. They spend somewhere around $ 2800/month (I think) just on day care. I live just outside NYC. I have zero idea how much daycare costs, but I know it is scary. I am planning to stay home at least for the first year- I make decent money, but by the time we pay for my commute, work clothes, etc AND daycare, I'm not bringing home very much. Fuck. that is more than what H makes a month before taxes. There is no way H and I could afford to have two children. And it doesn't make sense for H to be a SAHD when we crunched the numbers because of health care.

I can totally understand why so many families figure out that it's best to have one parent SAH. Both DH and I make enough that it will always make sense for both of us to keep working, but it's scary when housing + daycare add up to over 50% of your PRE-TAX salary.

It is so sad that the middle class has to struggle so much in many places in this country. We are here, too. H works part time but is going to school full time also, and after bills/mortgage/daycare we have very little to save. I'm hoping it will be better once H graduates next year and goes back to work FT. Then we can switch to his health insurance, which has to be cheaper than mine, as we're paying almost $800/month in health insurance, too Truly, having kids is borderline unaffordable. I've mentioned that I want a third baby at some point, but a major, stressful drawback for me is the cost. I would likely have to SAH or get a part time job at night or something for us to be able to afford that. The only way H and I could have a 2nd child is if I get a job working 2nd shift. And the only reason I would be the one changing jobs would be due to me never being able to get the insurance H currently has unless I can join a union. That way we would not have to pay for childcare. Most of my friends are one and done because of the cost of childcare. My only friends who do have two kids the husband works at a daycare and he gets a really good discount. H's one friend has 3 kids, but he makes around 90K, so his wife can be a SAHM.

I fell asleep on my back last night. It was for only 3 hours, but now my body is aching. And I know better to not sleep on my back this far along and more likely haven't done it for at least a month.. Luckily, my legs were on top of my body pregnancy pillow or I think I would be in worse shape.

Trying to talk myself into enjoying this quiet time but this is getting really hard mentally. I see my OB today and hopefully we will set an induction date bc there is no reason for me to think anything has changed since Monday. Tomorrow I will have another NST. Wheeeeeee! Thanks for checking in

Inducing tomorrow! I was not expecting that but it's going to work out really, really well timing wise for a lot of reasons.
IM GOING TO HAVE AN OUTSIDE BABY BY FRIDAY OMG
this whole time I've been like, yes we are totally ready! And now I feel really unprepared. I'll be spending most of the day freaking out and cleaning and repacking everything that I've had packed for several weeks. Bc that's the sane and reasonable thing to do. Thankfully we have church tonight which should help chill me out.

So I normally work evenings after all the department managers have gone home. But today I was scheduled 2 hours earlier, so I'm seeing all the department managers I haven't seen in weeks. They have been telling me I'm starting to get bigger. Thanks for stating the obvious. And why is it said like it's a compliment? Another reason I am happy I work with all men. Looks like LMC is ktmac's labor buddy. I We need hourly updates on ktmac starting tomorrow after she is induced.

Stupid question alert. What the fuck do contractions feel like? I see people on my month board talk about them once in awhile and have no clue what the feel like.
I always hear from doctors and ultrasound techs how easy the labor pains will be for me due to my very high pain tolerance. No one can understand how I was not screaming in pain and saying oh that hurts. This often has me wondering if what to me is a small pregnancy pain is actually Braxton Hicks, round ligament belly pain or something else.

Thanks!! Not even close to the pain which I am happy to learn. I think it is move likely just the LO moving around. At least I have a class on Saturday and another in December so hopefully they will be answering a lot of questions I never even knew I had.
