LMC, if it helps, I single handedly cleaned out the Cheetos in my office vending machine within 3 days for two straight weeks in my first trimester. I'd get mad that someone ate the Cheetos, before I realized it was ME and a craving. Not a healthy one at all, but pregnancy seems to do strange things to the brain and "food identification" receptors, and I was otherwise surviving on ice water, sips of ice cold Gatorade, and toast chee cheddar/peanut butter crackers. I didn't have to take meds for my icky 1st trimester stomach...I never puked (save for the memorable occasion when I discovered not to eat green grapes for breakfast when taking my pre natal...exorcist level glory right there), but the icky feelings were controlled pretty well by the crackers and ice cold sips of water. Hope that info helps while you and your doctor decide on what's best for you. Hugs!

Yeah, at this point I know some of the shit I'm eating isn't part of a balanced diet, but I'm pretty much just doing whatever my body tells me to.
Except right now. It's telling me to take a nap. Is work over yet?

LMC - You're right to listen to your body. Eat what you can-- Taco Chip(s? ?) will take what they need from you and will not go without. Yep! Taco chip will take from you what they need so you do not need to worry about the baby getting too much or not enough of any nutrient.

I would take my Unisom at 7 when I put G down for bed and literally go to sleep until 6 the next morning. I did that every night until I wasn't puking much anymore, so probably around 16 weeks or so. It was amazing. I have never taken sleeping pills because I always heard they disrupt your sleep patterns. I also typically sleep like a rock, so I rarely need them anyway. Bynadryl is my drug of choice when I can't sleep, but it wasn't cutting it. OB said Unisom and I will be relying on that for the next few weeks. Before I was pregnant anytime I had a shift change I would use sleeping pills. I forgot the brands that I typically used but they were a life saver.

Unfortunately, I think I need to start eating BEFORE I get hungry. Because right now I'm just waiting for the pretzels to take effect and am super nauseous Yes, this really is the key. Keep some crackers or pretzels next to your bed and eat before you even get up. I never took anything for nausea but that helped me a lot. I did take a unisom once in a while later on for sleep. And lived on heartburn meds. The annoying thing is, I try to head this off, I eat something.. and then I feel really sick from eating it until it settles 20 minutes later. This is going to be a long first trimester.

Also, I know you already drink a lot of water, but if you find yourself too nauseas too eat, still try and stay hydrated. If you get dehydrated the nausea gets sooo much worse.

Ps Benadryl IS Unisom. Same active ingredient. Actually, the version of unisom that supposedly helps with nausea contains doxylamine, not diphenhydramine. So if you're using it for nausea rather than sleep you have to make sure you are getting the right kind.

I think having a newborn is a lot more disruptive to sleep than stopping unisom. QFT

DH wanted fish fry for dinner. For those of you not in the area, it is.. Intense. There are a lot of sides and the sandwiches are ginormous. Of course, I don't eat fish, so I got the "meatless platter."
Pierogies Potato pancakes Haluski
Again. Carbs on carbs on carbs.

I hated fish as a kid and don't remember any xhurches we went to offering this.

I wonder if part of the reason I didn't have much morning sickness beyond the icky feeling stomach was because I ate so many carbs during 1st trimester....maybe the carbs helped absorb any extra stomach acid pouring in due to the whole "we're growing a person now, everything is out of whack for the next 10 months" thing??

No, morning sickness is hormone-related. As someone who had HG I can't help but roll my eyes at the implication that I would have been fine if only I had just eaten more carbs. I kind of look at morning sickness and HG as two completely different conditions. They're both hormonal, but MS can be controlled with things like small meals, crackers, fluids, etc. HG can't really be managed because the medical community can't seem to figure out the how's and whys. I don't know if it's technically accurate or not, but I don't ever consider myself to have had MS. I had HG.

I'm just eating lots of carbs because I want to eat all the carbs.
Feeling good today. Some serious nausea this morning but good since. Gonna need a nap.

@daubachsgirl23, I feel you thought I was implying that consuming carbs would cure/resolve all possible M/S or HG. That is not what I was saying. Given my mom's terrible morning sickness with me, and how she could only keep down Bremner's crackers for the first half of her pregnancy, and only after 2 pm, I'm quite aware that crackers, carbs, etc, are not the end all be all "cure" for addressing one's own situation.
I was merely speculating on whether in my case, the carbs I consumed helped to keep puking at bay. I did not state that it was an absolute truth, worthy of eye rolling.
If pounding carbs helps others dealing with sickness feel better, more power to them. If it's high fiber veggies, or sipping ice water/sucking on ice cubes, or taking medication to help control the issue, I say whatever works for them is the best method for them.

I have no clue why I never had MS but I am grateful that I never had it.

I've been MIA for the week because I was in the nice, hot desert of west Texas having a blast where there is no cell phone reception, but I just want to quickly say a few things.
First, LMC I almost cried when I saw your bleeding post so I'm so happy things looked good on the ultrasound and that you haven't had any more bleeding! Also, taco chip is hilarious.
Second, I was sooooo excited because there was a DQ in one of the towns in Texas we were in, but we went inside and they were OUT OF ICE CREAM!!!!! I nearly had a pregnant lady hissy fit right in the store.
Finally, I was like 20 miles away from where Justice Scalia was found dead yesterday. That's kinda freaky...
More later. Peace, ladies!

gingerlady How can they run out of ice cream and still stay open? (Unless they had burgers and such too). But it's DAIRY Queen. Their business IS ice cream! Exactly!!!! They were like "we have smoothies" (boo!!!) and of course all the burgers and other junk. But I seriously almost cried because you guys have been making me crave DQ sooooooo badly!
