@jennylee, the one Ellery I knew was an ultraconservative asshat in college who I mostly remember for a letter to the editor she wrote about how birth control was like bulimia, because with bulimia you got to enjoy all the perks of food without the consequences, and the same was true of birth control and sex. And apparently both were mental disorders. I just couldn't with her. But I think she spelled her name Eleri, so you're probably totes fine to use it with a different spelling. Whew! That was close! I totally get the association with names though. I will never have a child named: Nathan, Tanner, Alyssa, Morgan, Katie, Zachary ... and I've liked almost all of those names at some point. Then I became a teacher. DD was almost a Hannah, until exH came home from school one day and announced that Hannah was off the list. He'd just met a new student, and it didn't go well. I have a Hannah now and she's lovely ... If I have an Ellery, I promise I won't let her turn into an asshat. awww, that's my name.

I'm still working on getting DH on board with this one. Good luck! It's a great name. Nice and sweet, and awesome. I like it and the pronunciation.

Uh oh...all you ladies liking Audrey is making me nervous! My last name is so different there are less than a dozen in the country, but FIs last name is like the most common German name EVER. We already decided we want different but not strangely different first names.
We both agree on Audrey for a girl, but I also like Liesel, Eleni, and Ariel. For boys, we like Wade and Jakkob, (nickname is essentially Kolbi[sp]).
*When I brought up Liesel, FI said "Liesel Diesel". I almost cried! I don't want my children to have ready-made mean nicknames. He is coming around on it I think.

@jennylee, I know the feeling. I've known a couple 'bad' Alyssa's.

ajuliana - If you don't want a name that is really common, you might want to stay away from Audrey. My son has had at least 2 Audreys in every classroom he's been in at daycare. So back to the drawing board huh? At least I didn't name a kid Olivia like my SIL who chose it because "it is so unique". I have only met one Audrey in my entire life.

kwith I have always had more trouble with girl names, too (child-free and not TTC, btw, just like thinking about names). I love Harper, Ava, and Charlotte, but they are all too popular atm for my liking. I also like Violet, Layla, Julia, Claire/Clara, and Simone.

This thread is kind of cracking me up. FI and I have talked about some (most) of these names and I didn't realize how popular they were becoming! Funny to see Audrey on here - I know 6 or so elementary kids named Audrey. Lily Harper was the name I loved for about four years - Lily is a family name and Harper for Harper Lee. Now I feel like I can't use either of those because I keep meeting too many babies! Charlotte (Charlie) is our dog's name.

For a human, we both like names with an 'x'. For a girl, we like Lexi, but probably Alexis or Alexandra for the full name. The middle name would probably be Anne since it's a family name or Elizabeth (my mom's middle name and my MOH's first name)
I work in an elementary school, so I'm totally swayed by what I see from kids. Don't name your boy with. 'J' beginning, or Nathan- it's asking for trouble. I don't know why- just seems to be

And my Nathan was a troublemaker in elementary, but I promise they clean up good and go into business when they're grown.

I love both Charlotte and Norah. Our top girl name is Adelyn May. I also love Delaney and Langley. One of my BM's had a baby girl in May and named her Delaney. I'd never heard of it as a name before but I think it's super cute!

My 15 yr old stepdaughter has 3 close friends named Olivia. DS has also had at least 5 friends named Olivia throughout his daycare career. Madison/Addison/ Ava/Grace still seem like the winners though. I always loved the name Olivia and it was on my baby name list until recent years when I starting hearing about lots of people naming their baby Olivia :-( Also funny, SIL named her daughter Ava Grace. 2 out of 4 lol

I like traditional names that aren't super popular right now. My daughter's name is Meredith. If we have another girl someday my list is: Sara Elizabeth Abigail (though this seems to be getting more popular) Anne ( FI vetoed because he has strawberry blind hair and is afraid of naming a redhead "Annie") Marilyn Lilith

I've always liked Penelope, but our last name starts with a P, and H is concerned about teasing with P.P. as initials. Lily has always been a favorite, too.

We named our beagle Penelope, and I have met about a half dozen other pets with that name since we got our girl in March. HOWEVER I adore the name and kind of wish we had saved it for a human baby. It's just so sweet.

ajuliana and LMC, do you think P.P. as initials would be awful? Pepper Potts and Peter Parker seem to be doing okay.

If we have a boy, our current choice in boy names would give our kid BTW as initials. I've debated whether or not that's okay and have decided that it is. Your PP and LAW stories make me happy.
