There are a lot of construction projects happening in the library right now. The result? My office floor and (by extension) desk have been vibrating for the last two days. That could stop anytime, please. I had to make a grocery run last night. I got to the store around 7:30, and the parking lot was packed, which it isn't usually at that hour. When I got inside, I realized that it was because they were doing their Halloween event, so the store employees were dressed in costume, handing out candy to adorable kids in costume. My favorite was a little boy, probably about three, in a dragon costume. The employees also seemed to be having fun with it. One was dressed as a gorilla. Another was in this T-Rex costume: However, I was surprised to see that, on October 24, there was more Christmas stuff out than Halloween stuff. I love Christmas, but I feel like we should at least wait until November. How are you all doing today?

I agree I am not a fan of Christmas decor until November. I know last night was the Halloween parade in my hometown. Tomorrow daycare has dress uo day for Halloween since trick or treat in that area is tomorrow. This weekend we have boofest on Saturday at the boro building during the day and trick or treat that evening from 6-8.
I don't go to work until 5 pm today. I got in trouble due to a fedex package that was delivered in the beginning of August and still not having the packing slip. Whenbi first started I was told to throw them away after I knew the package went to the lab. I haven't been to the office to actually work since July so I have enough paperwork that needs to be saved and filed let alone fedex and ups slips. I do keep them a little longer hut they always end up getting wrinkled and ripped up within a few weeks.

I was at Home Depot a couple weeks ago and it looked like Santa's village with all the xmas stuff out. I hate the holiday creep. Xmas stuff shouldn't be out until after Thanksgiving.
I'm on day 3 of less than half a night of sleep. I'm not sure how I'm still functioning.

The thing that bothers me the very most about holiday creep is not necessarily that holidays are out early (although I still maintain that Christmas in September is excessive), it's that the holidays LEAVE the stores too early. Why can't I run out and find any decent selection of Halloween stuff in the actual week leading up to Halloween etc.

efmcc67 I hope the vibrating stops soon. How annoying. snippet17 Sorry about the mix-up with the FedEx receipt. I hope T has fun at all of the Halloween events! ven I really hope you get some sleep soon. I agree with everyone. I loooooove Christmas, but I don't allow myself anything Christmas-related until after Thanksgiving. Just enjoy the holidays in order, dang it! I got my new phone last night--woo! It's not super different from my old phone (which means no real learning curve), but it's sooooo much faster!

righthandman, exactly! If there must be Christmas stuff in the stores right now (which I guess there must?), then I should still be able to buy Halloween stuff. I feel like Halloween displays have already been getting smaller for the last couple weeks. Though I'm not going to argue with the Halloween candy already being priced at 50% off. ven, I hope you can get some sleep soon. eba1012, glad you got your new phone!

Here’s the thing about Christmas decor. Stores get a lot of it, and it takes FOREVER to get it all out. We start getting shipments mid-Sept so we have to unload, open everything, make space in stock rooms, set up the Christmas area, hang every ornament individually since most of them are fragile, etc, etc, etc, and generally stores don’t like you doing that sort of thing while they’re open/busy. It takes us 6 weeks to get it all set up. It just takes a lot of time, and I don’t think people realize how much work it is. If we waited until November to start we wouldn’t be done until halfway through December. It’s fine that people want to celebrate the holidays in order. Just don’t shop the Christmas stuff until later, but also realize the employees have a huge workload on top of their normal stuff.
This is apparently my hill to die on lol

Yay for the new phone eba1012! I hope the vibrating stops soon efmcc67. Depending on how late my dad gets out of work today, we might be finishing our hope chest today!

@echappe86, I do agree. DH used to manage the floral section at a craft store. It seemed like every day they were doing resets.

@echappe86 I worked retail for a long time, so I understand it's a necessary evil. I still hate it lol. (And it's no fault of the retail workers.) LINGERLONGER I hope you're able to finish the hope chest today! And I hope we get to see pictures of the finished product!

LINGERLONGER , Yes! What are those all about? We also have a whole section of hipster Santas which I also don’t get. If I’m being totally honest, the people I feel like who complain the loudest about Christmas decor being out before Thanksgiving are also the people shouting that no retail employee should have to work on Thanksgiving. When do you think all that’s going to go out? There aren’t Christmas elves out there to get it all set up over night. ETA: I don’t mean this towrds anyone here specifically, just an observation of the general public.

I have yet to see hipster Santas and upside-down Christmas trees. I'm not sad about this. @echappe86, thanks for sharing your experience. It makes perfect sense that you'd have to set things up, so they don't pile up for months. I'm just going to cosign everything eba1012 said, since I agree with her.

Yes you do because so do I. I did a Google image search and just found a bunch of real hipsters dressed as Santa. Basically take that image and imagine it in Nutcracker or throw pillow form. A sculpted beard, thick rimmed glasses, suspenders. I guess Santa is ironic now?

@echappe86 I worked retail, too. We did not work Thanksgiving day, but we were a small store and were not that busy Thanksgiving weekend since clothing stores were not as packed on Thanksgiving weekend compared to most of the other stores. I was grateful that I did not have to work, but I understand why the anchor stores had to. Hell if it wasn't for them we wouldn't have gotten much traffic.
This is more of a manager issue and not a store issue. I hated hearing Christmas music before Thanksgiving. The mall would have the regular music on and we would be the only store in the mall that had a Christmas cd on. It didn't help that the one manager always wanted to put it on so loud.
Never heard of the hipster Santas and I don't get the upside down trees. I do not understand why that is a thing.
