LMC when's your next appointment?? When do we get to see Taco Chip again?? One week from today!!! Assuming that they get the heart rate on the Doppler, I will then "graduate" to a regular OB!

PS: I like that we keep saying that Taco Chip is a girl After the bleeding incident, I decided Taco Chip must be a girl. No boy would ever put their mother through such a scare. So dramatic. hahah

Plus, J is equal parts excited and terrified of having a girl, so it's fun to mess with him.

DD cried THREE TIMES between after school and after supper last night. Want to know why? ME TOO! Because she honestly has no idea why, and she was the one doing it... I was a complete terror as a teenager. I didn't get in trouble, but I was a COMPLETE ASSHOLE. So I'm just waiting for karma to come around here.

I mean technically, Taco Chip hasn't grown the necessary parts yet, so girl is accurate. My mom was an OB nurse back in the day and the earliest she could get a heartbeat on a doppler was 9 weeks. Although IDK if dopplers have gotten more advanced since the 80s. In a related note, I have a doppler if you want to borrow it. I'll totally mail it to you. yeah, she tried to do it on my stomach to see if she could get a better read, but knew it wouldn't work. The internal one is what they're going on. I won't miss those.

You can get either the Panorama or (I think) MaterniT21 testing done as early as 6 weeks?
Mine was covered by my insurance.
You will find out gender (if you want) as well as testing for any genetic conditions.
It's just blood work

I heard a HB by external Doppler at my first OB appointment, which was at 9 weeks. It took a while to find but it was very real! The nurse told me she usually has a 50/50 shot at finding it that early.
The cell free fetal DNA tests (Panorama, MaterniT21, Harmony, etc) are most accurate after 10 weeks, though you could probably get a result before then. I've never seen a provider offer them before 10 weeks, however. They're usually covered by insurance if you're over 35 or have other risk factors like a previous pregnancy with a chromosome problem, recurrent losses, or ultrasound markers that may be concerning (like increased NT thickness). I don't think IF alone is a reason for coverage, but it's definitely worth asking if you're under 35! I liked knowing the sex at 11 weeks, but even more so I liked knowing I wasn't carrying a pregnancy with any of the more common chromosome disorders.

Yeah - it is a minimum of 9 weeks...not 6.
I knew it was early, just couldn't remember exactly how early.

My doctor has never mentioned that type of blood testing. Judging by the fact that my insurance covered $0 of our IVF cycle, I can't imagine I'd be covered.

Unfortunately almost no insurances will cover IVF (unless you live in MA - we have great insurance laws here!), but almost all insurances will cover the cell free fetal DNA tests for pregnancies at "high risk" of a chromosome disorder, so if you're interested in the test it's worthwhile asking your RE or OB or insurance company if it would be covered.

engr0308 - You never told us (or more likely, I missed it) - How did your H react?!

One week from today!!! Assuming that they get the heart rate on the Doppler, I will then "graduate" to a regular OB! Don't sweat it if they don't get it via Doppler - it can take the better part of the first tri. The bonus is that you get extra ultrasounds! I think Taco Chip has your big heart though, so it shouldn't be an issue! I was just thinking this. I had twins and they couldn't get either heart rate for me early on. I think the first time I heard it wasn't until closer to 12w.

You can call your insurance to see if its covered. I would have had to pay upto my deductible but by the time I took the test I already hit my deductible so I was like why not.

Your kid is totally going to figure this out and be grossed out. I know oh well. It's okay... My birthday is September 25th. Subtract 9 months and you get Christmas Day. But my mom said I was a week early, which means New Years Eve. Everyone has a story!

9 months before H's sister was born his parents went away for a weekend. H had a sleepover at his grandparents house and they went out of town for a weekend getaway. H is 5 years and 6 days older than his sister so he didn't know it right away but was a grossed out about it after he figured that out.

engr0308 - I missed your announcement. Congrats!!!! LMC - YAY for a heartbeat!!! So so SO happy for you! 1) How far along are you? 12 weeks, 1 day 2) Any complaints, compliments, AW moments, or issues? My back is starting to feel better but still really hurts. My OB referred me to an Osteopath, who can't get me in for an appointment til March 7. Awesome. I have my harmony test tomorrow. Still trying to figure out if they're testing for the Y chromosome or not. I keep getting different answers from different people. I know they CAN find out the sex but no one seems to know if they WILL and, if they do, whether my insurance will cover that part. I guess we'll see. 3) Belly pictures or other preparation photos? Forgot to take my weekly pic yesterday. I'll take it tomorrow. I think I noticed a lot of the bloat disappeared last week, which means from here on out it's all baby. I hope. 4) If you were attending an Anti-Valentine's party, either the day of or in days afterwards, what would you bring for food/entertainment contributions? Dessert. All the dessert. I made salted caramel bars last night and fell asleep before they were finished cooling so I haven't even tried them yet. Harmony should tell you sex (if you want it) regardless of insurance coverage. They include the sex chromosomes in the test to assess for sex chromosome disorders (most notably Turner syndrome). So learning the sex is just a by-product of the test - it wasn't designed that way. Good luck!

I hope gingerbread man never learns that his parents were backpacking with a tent in the mountains 9 months before he was born...
