Okay, so I didn't want to poop on anyone's baby names in the other thread since that would be mean, so here you have it:
What names do you hate? What trends do you wish would die? What are your absolutely intolerable pet peeves?
My #1 pet peeve is nicknames as names (Katie instead of Katherine, Abby instead of Abigail, etc). It's bothered me since I was a kid. I was a weird kid.
I hate pretty much every trendy name (not like old names that have regained popularity, but those modern trendy names, like Mackenzie and Peyton and the like).
My least favorite name that doesn't already fit one of the above: Melissa. I don't know why, I just hate it. (Sorry if that's your name! I'm sure you are awesome!)

The main thing that bothers me is when people want to use unique or special spellings of a name. For an example spelling Jessica - Jessika or Jesica
I do not mind the unique to me spellings if the name is traditional from the country the person was born at. Such as my cousin's wife's name is KimMi. She was born in Korea and her one parent is Korean.

Trendy made up names. Neveah comes to mind. Also for some reason I really hate the name Anthony. Idk why I just do.

I hate super popular names. It's not the name per se, but when you already have 10 friends with babies named Harper, why would you want to name your kid Harper?!? I'm not about super yoonique names, but why would you want your kid to be Harper #5 in their class? I want my children to have a little bit of individuality.

UGH.

Any "creative" spellings, and pretty much anything that didn't exist 10 years ago.
Just...no.
Anything unpronounceable. I worked with a woman at my old job who had five children. All of their names started with E, were more than 10 letters, and had a very high ratio of consonants. I didn't even try guessing the sex of those children, let alone pronounce their names.
I know a woman who is a labor and delivery nurse. One woman named her three children Taday, Tammaroh, and Yestaday. Spellings are approximate, but I understand they were phonetic, not the "traditional" spellings of today, tomorrow and yesterday.

Terrible names, no doubt, but it's always "I know someone who knew someone who..."

But this woman is a family member and was around for all three deliveries (she's been working at the same hospital my entire life). Tammaroh recently delivered her own baby there. ETA: The nurse is a family member. Not the mother.

I rarely believe these stories. Terrible names, no doubt, but it's always "I know someone who knew someone who..." I played softball with a girl whose name was Shithead. It's pronounced Shi-tay. I wish I was making this up. I've actually heard of this name. Apparently there are hundreds of these poor women.

Even the Duggars who have 19 kids with the first names that start with a J, at least have names that are easy to pronounce. I cannot even think of a 10 letter name that starts with an E.

Some names are just fucking weird. My neighbor growing up named her son Galileo. Another woman in our town named her son Orion. No, no. no. I also hate Nevaeh. Stupid name. Unpop opinion - I kind of like Orion. I probably won't name my kid that, but if H was really pushing it, I would consider it. I don't mind Orion, but it makes me think of a video game.

I am a super judgmental asshole when it comes to names. I like names that are easy to say/spell. I don't like old fashioned names, trendy names, or younique names. It's a very good thing I'll never have to name a child.

Wait, I lied. I think it's weird when people with the name Richard go by "Dick". Probably because I automatically think of male anatomy when I hear that word, why would someone choose to be called that? I know someone who went by the nickname Dicky. He is around my parents age.

Why do people hate the letter I? It's Lindsay. Or Lindsey. It's definitely not Lyndsy or Lyndsee. It's not Brytnee. And it's definitely not Jesyka. It's not that they hate the letter I, it's that they LOVE the letter Y. Is it a consonant? Is it a vowel? It can be whatever it wants! It's special just like my baby!

People need to just say no to ultra-trendy names ... anything that rhymes with -Aiden, which you guys have already covered. I blame Sex and the City for this. Ava/Avery and Sophie/Sophia just ... no. It's going to be so dated so quickly. Like, anyone under 3 named McKenzie or Madison already has an outdated name. It's odd.
The only other thing I can think of that I find weird is when people name their kids something super ethnic and it doesn't match the last name. Like .. If you're last name is Martinez, please don't name your kid Seamus. This probably makes me an a-hole because Seamus is a perfectly good name otherwise.
Alternatively, if you name your kid Padraig McConnell I expect him to be 100% Irish. No halfsies.

I also don't like names that are "unisex." And I mean all the Peytons, Skyler(ar)s, Camerons. Also, don't take a traditional boy name and give it to your girl. Oh, you named your little girl George? No, that's not cute.

I don't like the Top 10's. Jessica, Michelle, Emma, Ashley, Britney, Megan, etc...
I don't like unique spellings either.
Cutesy names are really popular here, i.e. Paisley, Shasta, Lindy, Kenlie, Kinzie, Kenzley. I saw on the states list posted yesterday that Crew, Jarrick, Daxton, and Boston were slowly gaining popularity. :[

You know what else pisses me off? When these discussions come up and some asshole always jumps in with "OH YOU'RE FULL OF SHIT, THAT'S AN URBAN LEGEND, NICE TRY." Ok. So you've looked through every birth certificate in America? The SS index? When I say that I heard "Lemonjello and Oranjello" over the speakers in family court, I'm not fucking making it up. And it's a courthouse. Not a K-Mart. People don't just get to say whatever they want over the PA system. Note to self: Do not ever go to the courthouse. People's names that get called over the PA system will make me stabby.
