I don't like the Top 10's. Jessica, Michelle, Emma, Ashley, Britney, Megan, etc... I don't like unique spellings either. Cutesy names are really popular here, i.e. Paisley, Shasta, Lindy, Kenlie, Kinzie, Kenzley. I saw on the states list posted yesterday that Crew, Jarrick, Daxton, and Boston were slowly gaining popularity. :[ Shasta is pop. Not a person.

Then for the love of god, name your child Shasta. Shasta McNasty. I'm pretty sure her milkshake would bring all the boys to the yard.

You know what else pisses me off? When these discussions come up and some asshole always jumps in with "OH YOU'RE FULL OF SHIT, THAT'S AN URBAN LEGEND, NICE TRY." Ok. So you've looked through every birth certificate in America? The SS index? When I say that I heard "Lemonjello and Oranjello" over the speakers in family court, I'm not fucking making it up. And it's a courthouse. Not a K-Mart. People don't just get to say whatever they want over the PA system. Same, I've actually met the people if I say something like this. Although I can recall one time when I was majorly skeptical. Anyone ever heard of someone named La-a pronounced Ladasha. Well, one of my students worked at a pool over the summer, and on the sign in sheet someone wrote La'. So they thought it was odd that someone was named La and couldn't figure out the apostrophe was for. Turns out her name was Lacommaatthetop. I lol every time I think about. It's not even Lapostrophe. There used to be a cashier at Kroger named LaFrederick. I always felt bad for her. Also to stay on topic, I hate when twins have rhyming or corresponding names. They're already going to be lumped together most of their lives, let them have something separate!

The girl that told us this isn't one to tell wild stories either like some of my other kids. It's the sort of thing that's just far fetched enough to be true because, really, who could just come up with that? It's also far fetched enough for me to doubt it's validity as well.

Do they really think it's called a comma at the top??

I hate the name Chad. I was bullied by a Chad in middle school. In fact, I don't think I've ever met a nice person named Chad. Also, it makes me think of the 2000 presidential election. This is the a-hole thread, so I feel comfortable saying this here. Our nickname for douche bags is Chad. Like, "ugh that guy is such a CHAD"

I don't really care what people name their kids, but crazy spellings and things like 'Shithead','Lacommaatthetop', and 'Oranjello' make me feel very sad for those children.
I also don't like when people think their baby name is so special and unique. No it's not. There are even other lame people out their naming their child 'Shithead' too.
It still makes me stabby that my SIL thought (maybe still thinks?) her daughter's name was so unique. Umm Lady you clearly haven't been around any young children or looked at baby name lists because it's in the top 10 most popular.

Three consonants in a name. We don't need three t's in your fucking name.
Also the name Zebidiah. I was in yearbook class with a kid named this and it's stupid. He had an even worse last name. And he was a dick.

Which Top 10 are you referring to because this looks like a 10 Top for the 80s and not a current Top 10 from this decade with the exception of Emma. Yeah i was going to add that. Top 10 80's/90's. I don't hate the last few years' Top 10's, but I also wouldn't name my kid them.

Sorry I wasn't trying to be a dick, it's just the same stories get passed around a LOT and although they are entertaining, it seems unlikely that they are always true. (Not necessarily untrue from the source - but possiby somewhere along the line some of the time. I believe that whoever shared it here is not lying themselves!) And god that's horrifying that you heard that first-hand over the PA. Those are supremely bad names.

Names I would consider country/western are pretty common here as well.
Hunter, Wyatt, Porter, Tucker, Tanner, Sawyer, etc...

This thread is making me lol in the office.
My neighbor growing up had a cat named Shasta. I thought it was a terrible name for a cat. It's definitely not a good name for a person.
I went to high school with someone named Lindz (pronounced Lindsey).

Isn't that how some last names were created way back in the day? It's weird to have them as first names Yep. That's why there are so many "Smiths." It was a very common profession. Right, but it should be like "John the Tanner" not "Tanner Smith" right? New pet peeve - if your first name is a job. Boo.

Oh yes, sorry I chose confusing examples. Oops. Okay, I understand now! Yes, as I understand it, professions were generally last names, not first names. Not that I'm an expert on medieval names. You're not???

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet and I might be in the minority here but I hate when people use girl names for boys. Granted most of the names that this happens with are traditionally unisex names that have become girl names in the past 100 years or so but no guy wants to walk around with the name Shannon or Ashley... Just saying.

Just saying. I agree with this. I know a woman named Shannon who once had someone say to her (on the phone) "Oh, you're a boy Shannon, not a girl Shannon!". She was not amused. I don't even know why anyone would think that's ok to say, even if it was true. There's no reason to make someone feel awkward about their name.
