Apparently a couple I went to HS with named their son Ezra. Confession: I kind of like that name. Not for a first name but it would be a good middle name.

Someone I grew up with had a baby today and named him Drogo, like from Game of Thrones.

It turns out my SIL is kind of an asshole about baby names. She was asking me yesterday if we had any names picked out. I told her no. She's all, "what names do you like?" I tell her a few of the names I like (Laura, Christopher, etc). She wrinkles up her nose and is all, I don't like your names. Ummmm ok. I don't really give a crap what she thinks, but her reaction was rude and a over the top. I just played it off by telling her that we'd never have to worry about accidentally "stealing" each other's names.

Sometimes I think celebrities sound like they are trying too hard with their baby names.

My response wouldn't have been as tactful as yours though. These days especially, I don't have a lot of tolerance for people being rude to me.

This is the reason I plan to not tell any family members before the baby's name is on the birth cert. Too many judgy people. I hate dealing with it and they are like whoa where did that come from when I tell them to mind their own business and keep their opinion to their self. I don't mind people feeling differently but I hate when they are rud e and have to tack.

My sister informed me over Christmas that if she and her BF have a boy, they (the BF) want to name him Jaxson. She may have told me this after a few glasses of wine, and I may have given her an honest opinon... Gross. Could they at least spell it the correct way? I have a friend who wanted to name her son Max, but didn't want Maxwell because it's "too common." So she names her son Maxton. Whut?

When I heard it I was all
But of course I just smiled and told her how adorable he was and how I loved it.

Oh, I also saw a baby girl on Instagram (not one of my friends' kids, thank god) named Penley. No. Just no. I saw a post on Facebook today about a Makaylynn. Womp womp.

My friend's niece did something similar. They wanted the baby to be Dax, but they added the 'ton' to the end to give him a formal name.

Maxton is terrible. H used to work with someone who named her son Maximus, which isn't a great name. Also, if I were dating a guy named Maximus, I'd expect him to have the biggest dick ever -- and he probably wouldn't.
Over the weekend I made a purchase from a cashier named Jarreson. I'm guessing his parents "compromised" between Jarred and Jason. Poor kid.

This is the name equivalent of a mullet: business in the front, party in the back. They are a classy bunch. The new grandmother just got married in September to a guy she had known for 2 months, got hammered on their wedding night and landed in the ER, and has subsequently left him. Class all the way.

I found out recently that my yoga instructor named her daughter Zen. IMO, that isn't too bad of a name. It's unusual, but at least it's easy to spell and not made up/mash up.

Like... a pen? So stupid. I told H that it reminds me of the Pen15 club when I was a kid. Does anyone else remember that? I do. It still makes me giggle that people let me write pen15 on them with a pen

My co-worker just told me that his "bone headed son and his equally bone headed wife" (his words not mine) have decided to name their soon to be born son Draven Night. Co-worker is not happy his first grandbaby sounds like an Edgar Allen Poe poem.

When I think of nova I think of an environmental company and two chemical companies. I know that is not the same for most people but I just don't like that for a name.

Lochlyn? Like the loch Ness monster? I just feel like giving your child a name like this is a self-fulfilling prophecy of sorts. Well then I guess Sasquatch is out.

Nova? That is HORRIBLE. The first baby born in my hometown was named Lochlyn. I know a few Lachlans, but Lochlyn is atrocious.
